I CAN HELP!
I offer flexible, dynamic lesson formats/packages to suit your needs, situation, and interests. My approach is uniquely geared towards older students like you, whose specific needs are completely DIFFERENT from those of the traditional teaching age groups (preschoolers and school-age children).
My well-rounded programs aren't like the typical canned, cookie-cutter lessons out there. I will design your strategy based on your goals, preferences, and personality.
I will show you more efficient ways of practicing, common patterns in music to help facilitate your learning process, and most of all, I will emphasize the FUNDAMENTALS in a FUN way! With me as your mentor and guide, you can achieve your goals faster than you do on your own—because an enjoyable, supportive, and collaborative learning environment is the KEY to YOUR SUCCESS!
I teach in an intimate small studio setting to ensure that you're getting 100% of my attention in our sessions together.
Unlike most traditional teachers, I don't merely present information. I show you the way to apply or implement it in your playing! I also make sure that the flow of information is just right for you—not TOO FAST, not TOO SLOW—to keep you motivated!
Minimize or eliminate your frustrations and increase your confidence!

About Your Instructor
Music has been a part of Nancy Hutagalung's life since her childhood. Though classically trained on the piano, she was raised on a diet of classic rock, prog rock, 80s pop, and much later, 90s alternative rock. From the beginning, she has always been drawn to rock music, which inspired her to take up the guitar in high school, culminating in current formal guitar study.
As a musician, Nancy enjoys a wide variety of genres, ranging from the mainstream to the underground.
After earning a Music BA cum laude from La Sierra University, Riverside, Nancy felt that academia was wanting. She sought long and hard for career direction and practical hands-on training in the real world. Her search led to her exciting current involvement in MCMP and EGTIC, music industry programs by successful teacher/virtuoso guitarist/recording artist/entrepreneur Tom Hess. This is by far the highest point of her musical journey.
Nancy had usually performed in various traditional church and academic settings, ranging from recitals to operas and musicals, until late 2006 when she began to immerse herself in contemporary music performance by joining the praise team of CrossWalk, a Redlands-based progressive church and a stint with a funk/soul/disco/pop cover band, Silk ‘n Soul, providing live entertainment in Southern California.
Nancy is an active member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California, Redlands Branch (www.redlandsmtac.com & www.mtac.org).
Nancy’s ultimate professional goal is to have a successful full-time music career by teaching music and forming a band to co-write, record, and release original materials with fellow indie rock fans. Fulfilling her longtime dream of entering the music industry as part of a rock project, she has contributed a track for Sonic Bridges, an MCMP compilation album. She is also planning future recording projects.
